Hoods
Question 2596

I have got mould and lichen (like white spots) on the roof of the car. I have scrubbed it with soap and water and jet cleaned it when that didn't help I used some stuff called Auto Glym but it still is all spotty. How can I get the lichen off? Is it just a case of trying harder or is there some really good stuff? Also I am worried that I will remove its weather proof properties by scrubbing at it.

Can you help me? I live in Chiswick, London which is a long way from where you are.

Don't worry about the waterproofness of the roof, they have a rubber membrane.

And yes most of the time its just a lot of work, which is why we use machine brushes. The  lichen can be very difficult to remove. The Autoglym Stuff you are using is pretty good stuff, if its their fabric stain remover or they may call it cabriolet hood cleaner (same stuff). Using a nail brush is not a bad idea, as long as your not too heavy with it.

Can you send us some pictures?

Best Regards
Gary
